A bench cushion is one long, uninterrupted piece — which is exactly why store-bought ones never fit your bench. We cut single-piece bench pads from 12″ to 72″ long, in rectangle, trapezoid, L and U shapes, to the quarter inch.
Bench types we cut for every week
- Entryway and mudroom benches — 2–3″ rectangle pads, sized to the bench top with a slight reveal.
- Dining banquettes and breakfast nooks — long runs, often L-shaped at the corner; the L-shape configurator prices the corner as one piece.
- Porch swings and gliders — measure between the arms, and consider 4″ for more give.
- Piano benches and window benches — slimmer 2″ pads keep the proportions right.
Measuring a long bench
Measure the full length and width of the bench top at the widest points — long benches are rarely perfectly straight, so take the length measurement along both edges and use the longer one. Thickness: 3″ suits most benches; our bench thickness guide has the full breakdown by bench type.
Foam and fabric for hard-working benches
Benches take concentrated loads — people sit on the same spot. HD36 firm foam is our standard recommendation, stepping up to HR45 high-resilience for banquettes that seat a family every day. One piece or two?
Benches longer than about 48″ are often more practical as two cushions — easier to carry, flip and clean. It's your call: the configurator prices either layout instantly, and both sit the same once placed.
